In our database of 92 publicly available voices, we searched for a specific tone of voice. We looked for voices that speak Flemish naturally, without sounding forced. A voice actor like Pawel, who is known for his deep, convincing and friendly tone, is perfect for narrative projects, for example, although here we were specifically looking for a Flemish accent. We ultimately selected three voices that struck the perfect balance between professionalism and approachability.
The director’s tip: the impact of body posture on the sound
During the recording session in the studio, we applied a simple but effective technique. A voice actor standing upright sounds more active and dynamic. That’s excellent for a commercial, but for an instructional video it often backfires. We asked the voice-over artist to sit down, relax their shoulders and record the script with a slight, natural smile. Sitting down shifts the breathing down into the abdomen, which immediately results in a lower, warmer and more trustworthy tone. The subtle smile, in turn, ensures that the somewhat dry instructions sound friendly and inviting.
The result: clarity on the shop floor
The result of this targeted approach was immediately noticeable during editing. The videos took on a logical structure in which the voice reinforced the visuals rather than getting in the way. The manufacturer followed a clear process to arrive at this final product:
- Selecting a natural voice that resonates with the installers’ everyday experience.
- Adapting the script to spoken language, with shorter sentences and simple transitions.
- Directing the recording in the studio, with an emphasis on calmness and a measured speaking pace.
Feedback from end users was extremely positive. The videos now genuinely assist with the installation process, as the voice brings a sense of calm to a busy site. This demonstrates just how important the right match is. Our client Pieter previously described this experience in his review of a similar project: “Not only do the voices perfectly match my requirements in terms of timbre, pace and intonation, but the service and communication from Johfrah and his team are also absolutely top-class.”
Why a carefully chosen voice works
Whether you’re creating an instructional video in Flemish, French or German, the voice is the vehicle for your message. Our database offers voices in various languages, from Polish to Spanish, all of whom are native speakers. A voice-over artist speaking their mother tongue instinctively captures the subtle nuances of the language. This ensures a credible end result that truly resonates with the listener.
