A practical example of how the right timing and human nuance in a Polish voice-over make a difference in international videos.
A Belgian SME recently needed a series of instructional videos for factories near Katowice. A professional Polish voice-over was essential to clearly convey safety instructions. However, the project ran into an unexpected issue. The translated texts were made to be the exact same length as the Flemish source text. This made the speaker sound rushed, and the visuals missed their mark.
Viewers didn't immediately notice what was wrong. They only felt the video was uncomfortable to watch. This is typical of voice work: when it's done well, you don't notice the technique. The message only loses credibility when the breathing, rhythm, or emphasis feels off.
In Polish, words and sentence structures are, on average, longer than in Dutch. If you directly adopt a Dutch-language timeline for a multilingual recording, you force the voice actor into an unnaturally fast speaking pace.
In this situation, complex technical procedures needed explaining to operators on the shop floor. The first test recording sounded like a race against the clock. Technically, every sentence was correct, but the human element of calm was completely missing. The message came across as rushed, creating doubt rather than clarity in the instructions.
Good voice work lies in the smallest details: the micro-pause between two sentences, the intonation of a technical term, and avoiding forced breaths.
Here's an analogy that illustrates this well: a refined voice-over works like a well-tuned gearbox. If everything is right, you don't notice the gear changes, and you drive smoothly. As soon as the timing falters, the whole ride feels clunky.
To rescue the recording, we thoroughly revised the process in the studio. We didn't do this by making the speaker go faster, but by adapting the text and direction to the language's unique characteristics.
Director's tip from our studio: Never make a voice actor fight against the visuals. Always prioritise the spoken language over the written script. A short pause at the right moment delivers more authority than three extra words rushed through.
After the revised recording, the videos' dynamic changed completely. The instructions no longer sounded like a read-aloud manual. Instead, they sounded like an experienced colleague calmly and clearly explaining the procedure.
Factory staff grasped the safety steps more quickly. This was simply because the audio gave them space to process the information. The difference wasn't in a spectacle of sound effects, but in the subtle precision behind the microphone.
When setting up a multilingual project with voices from our database of 94 professional voice actors, these are the most important points to consider:
Voice-over costs have two parts. You pay a fixed basic fee for the studio recording and the voice actor's performance. For commercial projects, there is an additional buy-out fee for usage and rights. This depends on the medium and duration. For non-commercial work, such as an internal instructional video or e-learning, we charge per word or per project.
It's quite straightforward. During the recording session, you can listen in via an audio connection. You can then give direct instructions to the voice actor and director. This ensures the intonation and pace immediately match your expectations.

Educational audio content: course modules, instructional videos, training. Often long texts. That is why we charge per word or per finished hour of audio instead of a standard BSF.
E-learning usually falls under corporate (non-broadcast). For public learning environments, a buy-out may be required.
A breathing exercise helps you regulate your heart rate and stress levels using a fixed rhythm or counting pattern. Breathing is the quickest way to calm your nervous system without needing any extra equipment.
The step in our checkout where you provide everything the actor needs: the script, the tone of voice (warm/business-like/energetic/...), reference videos or audio, deadline and any NDA requirements.
A Buy-out is the fee you pay for the right to use a voice recording for a specific period and a specific medium (e.g. Radio, TV or Online).
For our telephony messages, we use a unique model:
For commercials (Radio/TV), the buy-out depends on the reach and duration. Our price calculator calculates this for you immediately, so you are never faced with surprises.

How much does a professional voice-over cost?
The price depends on three factors: the medium (corporate video, radio advert, telephony), the licence duration (1 year, unlimited) and the script length. With Voices, you see the exact price per voice artist before you order. No surprises later on.
A short corporate video starts from a modest amount. A radio advert with national reach costs more due to the buyout (broadcasting rights). Telephone messages are generally the most affordable.
Tip: enter your script for the voice of your choice and you will instantly see the cost.
What exactly does a buy-out entail in voice-over?
A buy-out is the right to use your recording on a medium (radio, TV, online, telephony) for an agreed period. You'll see it reflected in your price before payment on /tarieven/.
